This is the movie that I've been waiting for so long to watch. I've read the book a couple of times and I really love it. Well... I love all the Harry Potter series, especially the Goblet of Fire one. J.K Rowling is one fantastic writer.
However, I cannot say that David Yates is a fantastic director. Because for me, HPATOOP is a major disappointment. Yep. A major disappointment. I was actually hoping for a damn good movie since the hype surrounding it (although Transformers kinda overshadowed it). And watching the movie... sigh. It was bad. B.A.D.

The Weasleys. I sooo love them!As soon as the movie started, I kinda did a mental checking, comparing the movie and the book itself. I knew that it will not be 100% according to the book, but at least it could stay true to the book. Somehow, I thought that the movie was a wholly different story from the book. And it disappoints me. It wasn't only me who was disappointed. My sisters were, too.
What made HPATOOP a disappointment for us:
- The way Harry got into No. 12, Grimmauld Place. He was suppose to memorize the address.
- Where's the screaming potrait of Sirius Black's mother?
- There was no sign of Mundungus Fletcher
- No sign of Doby the house elf, either (in the book, he helped Harry to find the Room of Requirement)
- Dolores Umbridge was less than exciting and irritating
- The way Umbridge "forced" her way into the entrance of the Room of Requirement was ridiculous
- It was Marietta, Cho Chang's friend who ratted out on the DA, not Cho herself
- Too little of Fred and George Weasley
- No quidditch (I was hoping to see Ron's tryout as the team's Keeper)
- Too little of Dumbledore
- Too little of Draco Malfoy as well
- Not much of Harry's rage or rebel as in the book
- The connection between Kreacher and Harry's hasty decision to save Sirius was never brought to attention in the movie
- The chaos in the Department of Mysteries was kinda dull, unlike the book.
- The Dumbledore vs. Voldemort scene was dull as well. What about those moving statue that protects Harry?
- Actually, everything fell short in the movie...
The mad, mad, mad Bellatrix LestrangeIf you've read the book, you'll know what I mean. In short, HPATOOP is the worst HP movie I've ever seen. ~sigh~

wow, *that* disappointing? I'm surprised... but like I mentioned, I hear good hype about it, but no matter how good the hype I know there's too much to cut out from the book to make a reasonably-timed movie... I might see it this weekend if hubby is free... this *is* my fave book of the series so far, so I know it will be easier to disappoint me :p
ReplyDeleteLynne: Yeah, that disappointing. The thing is, I remember every little details about the book. The book was so damn good. Watching the movie was like...blearghhh! I was kinda hoping for a much more intense movie, much more exciting. Such high hopes really... ~sigh~
