untitled, part i

"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"Yep. It's not like I have any other choice,"
"Well.. true. But... I don't know, girl, it's time and money wasted,"
"You think I don't know that? It's my future, my money," Diane heaved a deep sigh. The numbers in her bank account is dwindling fast. And she's definitely not getting younger as days go by. Her future is at stake. And everything that is happening to her at this precise moment is of her own doing, her own mistake. Where she is now, she herself made it happen.
"Oh well. Another six months, then you'll get your diploma. Finally you can graduate," Amy smiled, trying to cheer her friend up.
"Hurray," Diane replied solemnly, without any enthusiasm at all.
"Oh, come on! Look at the bright side. You don't have to do anything at all. You just have to sit around until the result comes out. You are guaranteed pass, after all," Amy added brightly. Diane smiled tightly. If only she could share Amy's positivity.
"If my mum ever find out about this, I'm toast," suddenly, the image of her mother with her hands on the hips popped into Diane's mind. She could not help but cringe at the image.
"Oh," Amy responded knowingly. She eyed her friend in pity, as if trying to say 'I'm sorry. Must be suck to be you now.'

Diane sighed again as she looked past the green grass to the two toddlers playing the swing in the playground. Must be great to be kids, she thought. No responsibility, no worries. You don't even need money. And Diane shook her head slowly at that thought. I'm comparing myself to kids! How pathetic is that, Diane? Very. Suddenly, her phone belted out Michael Jackson's 'Smooth Criminal' (in her defense, she said the tune is catchy and no one use the same ringtone as she is). Diane took one look at the screen and muttered a curse. Amy looked at her, wide eyed with interest.

"Who is it?"
